| Dear SAHS Alumni & Faculty,
Has it really been almost 20 years since 1987? Did you
know that in 1987 Mark McGuire entered the Major League as a Rookie with
the Oakland A’s. The Senate rejected the nomination of Robert Borke to
the Supreme Court with a vote of 58-42. Margaret Thatcher was elected
to a rare 3rd term in England. The Minnesota Twins defeated
the St. Louis Cardinals to win the World Series 4 games to 3. The
University of Miami was ranked #1 going 12-0 and “Platoon” won the
Academy Award for Best Picture.
I really don’t remember much of what
took place outside of our lives during that special year. I do however
remember Toilet Papering the inside of the School during Class with Mark
Mazzarol, Ward Hunter, Chris Becker and Jeff Smitley. Running through
the halls with Whistles, Ski Masks, Boxers and Combat Boots; Anything
for attention. I remember the pep rallies, painting our faces with
Senior Colors and wearing the shirts that said “Go to Hell World I’m
A Senior”. Do you remember holding up a row of letters that said
“Senior’s Rule”, and flipping them over to display the words “Junior’s
Suck”? How about Jason Kraus running across the gymnasium floor
blindfolded, thinking he was dodging random eggs on the floor, but
having no way to stop as he ran into the wall turned around and ran the
other way knocking over the band and Mr. Taft along the way during our
Homecoming Pep Rally?
I remember Shane Pearson, Joe Koz,
Chris Hawley & Joe Wandell draped in Togas carrying a stretcher into the
gym for the unveiling of our Senior Mascot. Do you remember Kathy
Parker and Dianna Lee also dressed in Togas fanning the stretcher with
palm leaves as the Senior Class Chanted? And I remember our Mascot,
Michael Jackson and his dance to “Beat It” with that Red Leather jacket
that had all the zippers.

Every time I hear the song “Lean on
Me” by Club Nouveau I think back to our Senior Trip to Nagsan
Beach. Our chaperones were Rory Fullerton (Class of ’86), and Sallie
Sloane. How did we get away with that? I remember $6 cases of Foster’s
from the Australian Embassy, compliments of Mark Mazzarol and Chris
Becker going beyond the normal limits of intoxication.. Mark York
bailing everyone out that stole liquor from the hotel Lobby Bar and Brad
Rowe who slept the first 2 days of the trip. Most of all, I remember
staying up late at night with my friends and just having FUN!!!!!
Memories of my 3 years at Seoul
American High School come back on many occasions, but I always find that
they are much more enjoyable when I am able share those memories with
someone that was there with me. Some of my closest friends today are
from the brief time we spent in Korea. I’m sure that is true with many
of you as well. We grew up in a special place at a special time and
many of us formed special bonds. I am still amazed at how easy it is to
pick up the phone and talk with someone I haven’t heard from in over 10
years and strike up a conversation like high school was yesterday.
The Summer of 2007 will mark 20
years since we last saw each other together. Please make an effort to
join us and other Classmates in Cancun as we reminisce about all of
those times, and catch up with what is happening in our lives today.
Our 20 Year Reunion will only happen once, and we want you to be
there. Sure the occasion is marked for the Class of ’87, but we invite
all SAHS Alumni & Faculty to join us. I find it hard to imagine what
life would be like without the friendships and memories I have of our
special time together. And to finish this invitation, I have to steal a
line from Brian Ackerman, “SAHS BABY!!!!!! I’M GONNA BE
THERE!!!!!!!!!!” |
